Maryland Lottery to leverage Nutanix Xi Frame technology

Enterprise cloud computing agency Nutanix has announced that Maryland Lottery and Gaming will be leveraging its ‘Nutanix Desktop as a Service’ (DaaS) solution, Xi Frame, to quickly and easily enable employees to work from home.

Similar to other industry organisations, Maryland Lottery faced unexpected challenges as a result of the Global COVID-19 health crisis. However, due to its partnership with Nutanix the Lottery has been able to provide its workforce with the capability to work from home despite not possessing enough laptops for all employees.

This has been achieved through the use of the Xi frame which allows the Lottery to provide the same access and tools through the personal devices of employees regardless of location. In addition to this, it also provides secure access to the network by allowing employees to easily access the VPN and connect via Microsoft RDP to their desktop, and work remotely just as if they were on their PC in the office.

Jeff Patchen, CIO at Maryland Lottery, stated: “We rolled out Frame in about two days, it was that simple. I was on the phone with a Nutanix engineer on Friday afternoon and had everything set up by Sunday at noon, allowing us to get users quickly on-board. At the moment we have about half of our employees utilizing Frame but it could support the entire agency if needed. Frame gives us the flexibility and agility to allow more users to telework.”

Virtual workspaces can also be created for employees, with the flexible nature of the Xi also providing the Lottery with the ability to adapt as the ongoing situation develops.

Maryland Lottery’s IT environment is critical to its operations as it supports a variety of enterprise and business office applications. As a result of it leveraging Nutanix’s DaaS the Lottery will now be able to accelerate deployments and improve management by approximately 50%, all while remaining secure and stable within minutes.

Nikola Bozinovic, VP and General Manager, Desktop Services, at Nutanix, added: “For IT leaders, it is imperative to provide employees the tools they need to succeed in their roles. In these unprecedented times, having the technology that allows employees to access their work applications and data from home is more important than ever.

“With Xi Frame, Maryland Lottery was able to rapidly roll out teleworking to employees, allowing them to get their jobs done and serve their customers reliably and securely.”

Moreover, aside from enabling employees to work from home, the software will also improve compliance and security, with Nutanix’s Prism Pro also allowing the IT team to streamline its infrastructure.
