The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has published its 2021 Mid-term Monitoring & Intelligence Report, citing ‘a busy first six months’ of the year, from education to policy-making, engaging with its members and monitoring to maintain sport integrity.

The GLMS shared several activities in which its lottery, associate and regulating members have participated, enhancing the quality of sports betting and especially facilitating the prevention, detection and monitoring of sports integrity.

The report reveals that over the first six months of 2021, there were 680 alerts and notifications for 10 sports, 56 of which were sent out to members and partners following its in-depth analysis, justifying suspicious odds movements where appropriate and delivering integrity reports where needed.

Out of the 680 alerts and notifications that were generated in Q1 and Q2, 515 were created before the start of the match. 31 alerts and notifications were based on in-play odds changes. 134 alerts and notifications were triggered after the end of the matches.

From the 680 alerts and notifications, 38 were red alerts, 11 of which were generated pre-match or during in-play. 152 were yellow alerts and 380 green notifications. The rest of the alerts were either requests or information provided to and from GLMS members and partners.

Europe was the region that generated the most alerts with 373, followed by Asia with 116, South America with 99, North America with 32, Oceania with 19 and Africa with 18. A further 23 alerts were classified as international.

Of the 373 alerts in Europe, football led the way with 255 alerts, followed by basketball with 58, esports with 27, ice hockey with 15, tennis with 14, volleyball with three alerts and handball with a single alert.

GLMS also mentioned in its report that it conducted its first internal ad hoc working group for its lottery members on monitoring and analysing the integrity of the UEFA Men’s European Football championship.

It worked simultaneously with UEFA in a multistakeholder working group during the tournament, involving the Council of Europe, national platforms and other betting stakeholders.

The report also covers GLMS’ main highlights from the last few months, including reelecting Lottomatica’s Ludovico Calvi as its President, as well as a new Executive Committee for the period 2021-2023 during its recent online General Assembly.

It also highlights its policy work as an observer to the International Macolin Convention and contribution to UNODC’s work, the successful closure of Integrisport and the launch of its follow-up project for law enforcement and judiciary, digital educational events worldwide on sport integrity and sports law.
